What type of website is ComWeb best suited?
Site types best suited for ComWeb?
ComWeb was specifically designed for web based information management with one aspect being web publishing.
As web content is generated (rather than files individually assembled and saved), ComWeb should be used where:
- meticulously consistent branding, operation, navigation and presentation is vital across a site or range of sites; especially where
- content is authored directly by non-technical subject matter experts
- several staff are responsible for either the same or different pages
- collaborative content editing is preferred
- a high level of staffing turnover is expected
- presentation of information from a variety of local or remote data sources is required
- information publishing must be subject to audit, archive, accountability and approval business rules
- content is subject to a high update frequency or the time to publish is critical
Site types not well suited to ComWeb?
ComWeb is not well suited to transactional style web sites. This includes:
- shopping sites - eg eBay, PayPal
- financial sites - eg banking, stock trading
- discussion forums, etc
As ComWeb is a generic web CMS, if there is a specific requirement that ComWeb does not fit precisely, CompuCraft can quote on additional functionality or modules if appropriate, or the development of an entire new application.
eg, When a discussion forum was required, CompuCraft sourced a popular, reliable product compatible with the Defence SOE, and after minimal customisation for integration with the ComWeb user authentication process provided it as a 3rd party endorsed module.
Often the site structure, framework, information pages and look-and-feel is out-of-the-box ComWeb, and the alternate URL option is used to link in other applications as if they were a part of the site. In this way, only the application specific portions need development and the remainder is COTS ComWeb.
